One of the most important things you have to do when thinking of a good blog is to figure out what you believe is your blog’s specialty. If you try to hit everything, you will only get nothing but confusion from potential readers.
The question then remains: “What should I blog about?” For many, it’s a particular thing they enjoy. Salon.com has a segment known as “Ask the Pilot,” which is a blog written by an airline pilot. You can find theme blogs all over. I’ve found blogs on pugs, naval ships, even toilets.
It all boils down to what you want to talk about. Think well, and knock yourself out.
Absolutely.
My blog is a mosaics blog I started after I took my first class. It started off as a way of storing bits of inspiration and technique for future use. As long as the topic relates to mosaics its fair game for a blog post. Now I get 1500 hits daily for what is a rather specialist topic.
Most of my posts are photos of mosaics which I like and flickr is a wonderful source. If you remember to leave a comment at each photo you blog, you also get extra traffic.
But I also take photos of any local mosaics I find so it has become a resource in that respect too. And I will feature mosaic artists that take my fancy [and no one has refused me permission to use a photo off their website yet!] and new products. I have had some people I consider to be gurus in the field visit my blog and leave comments which really makes my day. Not bad for an absolute beginner!
